Q. What is a Domain Name
A domain name is an Address that is used to identify Web Space where each Web Site is housed. A domain name address in reality is identified by a set of figures i.e. 195.22.54.16 which is the IP address, though we are less likely to forget words so a name is locked to the numbers which are unique.

Q. Who can get a Domain Name
Anyone can purchase a domain name and use it for more or less anything they like providing it is lawful and does not infringe someone's copyright or trademarks.

Q. Do I need a Domain Name
Yes - If you are a company, then a Domain Name is needed to create the right image for your business on the internet. Using free Web Space never seems to create the right image. One reason for this is Email addresses that look like info@your-company.btinternet.com don't seem right though info@your-company sounds as though it belongs to you. Likewise with your Web Site address www.your-company.btinternet.com does not nurture as much confidence as www.your-company.com.
No - if you are just running a personal site. You could just use the free domain space that is normally given to you by many of the large ISP like Tesco and BT, however most of these do not allow you to run scripts or many of the other features available to you with commercial hosting.

Q. Which Domain Names can I get
We sell and host many types of Domains including .co.uk, .uk.co, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk, .org.uk, .com, .net, .org, .biz, .tv, .info, .gb.com, .uk.com, .eu.com, .uk.net, .gb.net

Q. Can I Register any Domain Name
No - To register a .ltd.uk or a .plc.uk you have to be a Limited or PLC Company Registered at Companies House and be able to provide your Registration Number.
However anyone can register any of the others. Most people tend to register Domain Names that belong to the country in which they or their business is based along with .com .net and .org.

Q. Can I use special characters in Domain Names
You can only use dashes - these can only go in between words (your-site) but cannot be used at the beginning of a Domain Name (-yoursite) or at the end (yoursite-)

Q. I cannot get the Domain Name I want
This can be a problem with many businesses around the UK, or the World for that matter, using the same trading name and selling many of the same products. Some of the best Domain Names are now taken though using dashes in between words, or maybe trying the products that you sell or even Trade/Product Names, you should find a domain that is right for you. Having said that there are new domains now on the market with many of them still not Registered. If you still have trouble finding a Domain Name for your business then ask us and we will help you.

Q. What do Domain Names cost
Domains are Registered in your name normally for two years at the cost on our current price list. When you have paid for the Domain Name it is yours. We make no other charges whatsoever. However you will need to renew it at the end of the Registration period.

Q. Will you tell me when Registration is due for renewal
We will email you and let you know it is due for renewal (normally six weeks before it is due). You will then have the opportunity to renew Registration or let it lapse. If you renew the registration you simply pay the current Registration fee again, or let it expire if you no longer want the domain.

Q. What do I get if I Register my Domain Name with you
You get your Domain Name Registered for however many years you specified. We can park it for you for Free while you decide what to do with it. We can also give you Free email and web forwarding if you require it.

Q. Can I cancel a Domain Name Registration
You can cancel a Domain Name once it has been registered but you cannot get a refund on the Registration period not used. All that a cancellation will do is make the Domain Name available for someone else to use. So, unless you really have to cancel, you should keep it until the next renewal is due and, if it is still not wanted, let it lapse.

Q. How long does it take before my Domain Name works
With UK Domain Names they are generally working within 24 hours of the Domain Name being Registered - other domain types can take between 24 - 48 Hours before they are working. 24 hours after we register your Domain Name you should be able to see your name as the owner by using our Whois search.

Q. I don't have a Web Site do I need a Domain Name
If you are a business it would be a good idea to get your trading name if it is available so nobody else can get it. Sometime in the future you may decide to get a Web Site only to find someone else is using your preferred Domain Name. You may also be going to start up a new business in the future and, if you leave it until you decide you need to have a Web Site, you may find that the Domain Name you wanted someone else has got. If your domain Name is Available you should get it to make sure nobody else does.

Q. What is email forwarding
When you have Registered a Domain Name you can create as many email addresses as you like, i.e. sales@your-domain-name.com or jim@your-domain-name.com, and we will forwarded them to an email account that you already use. So if your current email address is you@hotmail.com any email addresses you create, i.e. anything@your-domain-name.com, can be sent to you@hotmail.com

Q. What is web forwarding
If you already have a Web Site hosted by somebody else or on free Web Space we will redirect the Domain Name you buy from us so that when anyone types in www.your-domain-name.com they will be sent to your existing Web Site.

It allows you more control over email than just forwarding, i.e. If you wanted mail addressed to info@your-domain-name.com to only go to info@btinternet.com and Simon@your-domain-name.com to only go to pete@hotmail.com then a POP box allows this to be set up. You are able to setup up to 15 POP3 boxes on our Basic Bronze package.

Q. What is an Auto Responder
An Auto Responder automatically sends a message back to the sender of incoming mail to your POP3 box.
